Visual Arts

The visual arts offer students the opportunity to express their own unique visions of the world. Art teaches children valuable ways of seeing, imagining, inventing and thinking. At Casagrand International School , art education enhances each student’s ability to fully experience beauty and art, while deepening the student’s understanding of culture and history.

Primary School

The Lower School art curriculum exposes students to the world of art through art history, artists’ styles and famous paintings. The elements of art and the principles of design are incorporated as students work with a variety of art media. Art projects correlate with themes studied in the classroom, and students enjoy critiquing and appreciating one another’s work on display. A high honor for Lower School students is being selected for the school-wide Artscape show and reception held each spring.

Middle School

Middle School students are given the opportunity to explore visual art in year-long courses. Students are encouraged to express themselves through a variety of media with emphasis on drawing, painting, collages, sculpture with plaster and clay, photography and architecture.

Field trips to art museums and artists’ studios augment the curriculum and reinforce the student’s perception of art as integral to their lives.

Upper School

In Upper School, students continue art education through a variety of media with emphasis on aesthetics, creative thought and production, art history, and criticism. Studio art classes are designed to develop an appreciation for the arts and to provide opportunities for students to discover the joy derived from creating works of art. Students learn to take risks and master their fear of making mistakes. Courses include subjects ranging from sculpture to 3D design, painting, drawing, and photography. Frequent workshops, talks by area artists and visits to art museums reinforce the Upper School art curriculum.

Drama

The world we live in is filled with creative expression. Exposure to and participation in the performing arts is vital to the appreciation and continuation of such humanities. Drama courses at Casagrand International School provide students opportunities to develop the skills necessary to become effective communicators, spontaneous thinkers and positive team contributors.

The Casagrand International School drama experience begins in the Preschool and Lower School with grade level productions. These productions help our students build their confidence and communication skills.

Students in Middle School participate in drama classes several times each week. These classes focus on presentation skills, team work, problem solving and creative expression. Seventh and eighth grade students may choose to participate in the annual Middle School play.

Music

Casagrand International School provides students in all divisions the opportunity to study music. In Preschool and Primary School students will attend general music classes twice a week. These classes are conducted to create a life-long love and appreciation of music. Preschool will students explore the world of music through singing, playing a variety of pitched and un-pitched rhythm instruments, movement and composing. Students explore basic music concepts such as beat, note values, pitch and rhythm. Our senior students continue to study music through singing, playing instruments, movement, composition and music history. Students learn how to play and care for the instrument of their choice in classes that are held twice a week during the school day. Each year our School students will prepare music and perform for several special Casagrand International School events - Grandparents/Special Friends Day and Festival Day, along with their respective grade level music productions.
